Barnardo’s Cymru

Media and Communications Manager

My main role at Barnardo’s Cymru was to maximise publicity opportunities for the scores of children’s services across Wales.

The diversity of the role meant juggling many projects at the same time, including:

  • Creating media opportunities and writing press releases for regional services and national charity’s campaigns
  • Organising events and conferences
  • Working with fundraising and events departments to develop media opportunities
  • Copy writing for a host of publicity and marketing materials
  • Interviewing children, young people and parents for case studies
  • Delivering media training
  • Lowest price valtrex

Key highlights included:

Children’s Sexual Exploitation work

Promoting the charity’s pioneering work on raising awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation in Wales and the rest of the UK.

As well as securing coverage in regional media and national trade publications, my job share and I managed the production of a hard hitting film which highlighted the dangers vulnerable children face.

S4C’s charity of the year

Having successfully bid to become the charity of the year for the Welsh language speaking channel S4C, my job-share and I negotiated a series of in depth filming opportunities at a number of Barnardo’s services in Wales.

I toured with the film company for a week, heling to set up interviews, creating film opportunities and managing the relationship between the crew and the vulnerable people they were meeting.

S4C carried out a number of fundraising activities which saw me coordinating a cycle tour of our services across Wales, and dressing up as a Fireman Sam mascot.

Self harm project

Working with the inspirational team at Cardiff’s Caterpillar Project which supported children who were struggling with mental health issues.

The project highlighted the shortcomings of health services and aimed to show the issues affecting young people in South Wales.

Together with my job share partner, we produced promotional material to attract more resources to the service, including a radio script which was developed with the service users and was aired on local radio.
